Faust

Bass-Baritone Shae Apland is a native of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Mr. Apland was heard as The Baron in La Traviata and The Father in Hansel and Gretel with the Opera Theater of Connecticut, where he was a winner of the prestigious Amici Vocal Competition. With the Hillhouse Opera Company in New Haven, Mr. Apland performed the roles of Mephistopheles in Faust and Don Alfonso in Cosi fan Tutte. Mr. Apland is a graduate of the Master of Music program at the Manhattan School of Music, where he performed the roles of Leporello in Don Giovanni, Le Marquis in Dialogues des Carmelites, and Don Profundo in scenes from Il Viaggio a Reims. Mr. Apland's other major roles include Mr. Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Reverend Hale in The Crucible, Ben in The Telephone, Schaunard in La Bohme, Frank in Die Fledermaus, Nardo in La Finta Giardiniera, and Basilio in The Barber of Seville. As a Spectrum Resident Artist at the Virginia Opera, Mr. Apland was seen as the Pirate King in Pirates of Penzance, and covered the mainstage roles of Zuniga in Carmen and Claudio, Palante, and Lesbos in Agrippina, in addition to performing in numerous educational outreach performances. Mr. Apland can be heard as a frequent guest artist with the Heritage Singers of Southbury, CT and as a cantor at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Waterbury, CT.
